A few weeks ago, we got to learn more about Keith Sommerstad, the owner of Above All Equipment. We learned about his previous jobs that lead him to buying and selling aerial lift of all kinds for those in need of the right machine for the right price.

Today, we are going to talk about Keith Sommerstad’s love for his Classic Toyota 4 Runner!

About six years ago now, Keith was looking for a car that could handle the harsh winters here in Northeast Ohio. He stumbled upon this 4 Runner and instantly fell in love. In fact, he loves his 4 Runner so much that he doesn’t even drive it in the winter because he wants to preserve it as long as possible.

Scissor Lifts

All modern scissor lifts, from the 1990s- current, come equipped with a standard platform extension. They are pretty standard and typically extend about three feet.

Maintaining your aerial lifts is always important, and the same goes for these scissor lift platform extensions- make sure to always read through your manual so you know exactly how to use and maintain your machines.

Also, make sure to update your scissor lift every year for the ANSI certification to keep it on the up and up.

A common question we get a lot is how much do scissor lifts weigh- though the answer can vary depending on what type of scissor lift you are looking at, we wanted to give a quick overview from the most popular models.

The most common reason people need to know the weight of a scissor lift is for towing purposes.

19-Foot Scissor Lift Weight

19-foot scissor lifts typically weigh anywhere between 2,400 and 3,000 pounds.

26-Foot Scissor lifts

26-foot scissor lifts can weigh anywhere from 4,200 to 5,000 pounds.

32-Foot Scissor Lifts

32-foot scissor lifts usually weigh between 5,200 to 6,000 pounds.

Runabout Weights

Runabouts are similar to scissor lifts but are much smaller. They can be 12 to 20 feet and weigh anywhere from 1,500 to 2,500 pounds depending on the size.

Genie GS1330M or Genie Runabout

If you are looking for a small scissor lift for indoor reach, the Genie GS1330M is the smallest you can get, but unfortunately, they are not very common in the United States. A comparable machine would be the Genie Runabout.

Genie Runabouts for Sale

The Genie Runabouts are essentially a small scissor lift. They come in 12, 15, and 20 feet reach, all with very small footprints. This makes them a great choice for indoor work as they can fit through standard doorways and fit in most elevators.

This is a very common question for people who are in the market for an aerial lift. The short answer is a very long time, but it all comes down to how you take care of it, just like any other machine.

How Many Hours Does a Scissor Lift Last?

As long as the scissor lift is taken care of properly with regular maintenance, they should last about 30 years.

The hours record differently than other machines such as forklifts that would count idle hours. A scissor lift will only count the hours as it is in motion, so if you are hanging drywall or doing electrical, it’s not counting those hours.

So, we would say that a scissor lift can last about 500 to 1,000 hours of movement.
